Welcome to Ignacio Lopez Elementary School – Home of the Huskies!
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at Lopez Elementary—a place where students learn, grow, and thrive! I am truly honored to join this incredible school community as your new principal with 30 years of dedicated service to PUSD, and I could not be more excited to meet our amazing students and the families who support them.
We are proud to share that Lopez has been awarded the California PBIS Coalition Silver Award for the 2024–2025 school year, recognizing our ongoing efforts to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students. This accomplishment reflects the hard work, dedication, and heart of our staff, students, and families, and we will build upon this strong foundation as we move forward together towards “Gold.”
This year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Soar!”, captures our shared commitment to growth and excellence. It calls each of us—students, staff, and families—to strive for our personal best academically, socially, and emotionally. With high-quality instruction, a vibrant and inclusive school culture, and a caring, connected community, we are ready for another action-packed year of learning, discovery, and success.
At Lopez, we take pride in being a welcoming and diverse community. Our staff is deeply committed to the whole-child approach, integrating academic rigor with social-emotional learning and equity in excellence, so that every student is prepared to meet challenges with confidence, resilience, and joy.
Lopez Highlights Include:
● Targeted, high-impact instruction in reading, writing, and math, with small-group learning that fosters collaboration, critical thinking, and student voice.
● A robust STEM program with a robotics component for upper grades.
● A dynamic visual and performing arts program for TK–6th graders that sparks creativity and self-expression.
● Our one-of-a-kind Lopez Urban Farm, where students learn hands-on about sustainable agriculture, food systems, and environmental stewardship.
And of course, we make sure learning is fun! We believe that joy is essential to a meaningful and memorable elementary school experience. Our success as a school is made stronger through the incredible partnership we have with our families. I encourage you to get involved—whether it’s through our PTA, volunteering, attending school events, or joining a classroom activity. Your participation builds long-term relationships that strengthen our school community and help our students soar.
Lopez Elementary is more than just a school - it’s a place where children are encouraged to dream big, take risks, and support one another. With our theme of “Ready, Set, Soar!” leading the way, I am confident that this will be one of our best years yet. Let’s make it a year to remember—together.
